General and Routine Garden Maintenance
The CCLC Community Garden depends on its volunteers for maintenance and upkeep. The volunteers in this area help with all the routine work related to the garden. The work is divided into two categories:
Watering
The raised beds and greenhouse plants are watered three to four times a week during the main growing season. Volunteers sign up to water one day a week for one month. The surrounding in-ground beds and planting areas are on an automatic drip system.
General Garden Maintenance
The garden coordinator creates a "to-do" list of general work that needs to be completed in the garden and posts on the message board. Additionally, the coordinator may send out emails requesting help for special garden work days. Volunteers provide the necessary upkeep and maintenance of the garden. This work may include:
- Weeding
- Pruning
- Dead heading
- Tying back and staking plants
- General Clean-Up & Repairs
We also hold garden "work days" about four times during the year for seasonal garden chores.
