Raised Beds for Personal Use
Individuals, groups, and/or families may sign up to use a 4'x10' raised bed to grow and maintain their own plants, flowers and produce. We do not charge a fee for the personal use of a raised bed.
Getting Started
New to gardening? An individual box is a great way to be introduced to gardening. Don't want to try this on your own? Gather a few friends or family members and work a box together. No experience is necessary. Many participants in the Community Garden and the Garden Coordinator will be happy to help you get started and provide tips and suggestions.
We have a large selection of seeds that can be planted directly in individual boxes. Many plants and seedlings are grown in our greenhouse and are available for planting into individual boxes. Additionally, we teach and encourage seed saving techniques. You may also purchase seeds, plants, and seedlings at local garden centers for planting into your raised bed.
Giving Back
Those assigned a raised bed for personal use are encouraged to support the Community Garden in the following ways:
Use about 1/4 of their assigned box to grow produce to give to the food pantry. Or... Give 1/4 of the produce grown to the food pantry.- Sign up to help in at lease one area of the Community Garden.
- Participate in garden work days held about four times per year.
Invasive Plant Policy
New and experienced gardeners occasionally make the mistake of growing plants that quickly take over an entire area. The Community Garden tries to avoid specific plants that are known to be invasive, self-seeding, or known to jump containers.
The following is a partial listing of plants to avoid in the CCLC Community Garden.
Any plant from the mint family- Morning Glory
- Alyssum
- California Poppy
- Vinca minor
- Vines and other climbing plants
